G. Balasubramaniam, FCS is a Company Secretary with over 25 years of corporate experience, having held senior positions like Company Secretary, Vice President at various companies, including a top 500 listed entity. His expertise includes company formation in India and abroad, along with managing compliance matters for countries like North America, Germany, Russia, Iran, Malaysia, UAE, and Slovenia. He is proficient in a range of corporate functions, including Finance, Accounts, Audit, Legal, Secretarial, Human Resources, and Administration. Balasubramaniam is also qualified to act as an Independent Director and is a member of the Independent Directors Databank of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs.
His career also includes a tenure at LIC Mutual Fund in Mumbai, where he gained knowledge in shares, securities, stock market trends, and equity research. He has written a booklet on “Mutual Funds in India” that is used as a study guide at P.S.G. College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore. From 2011 to 2013, he was the Co-Convener of the Economic Affairs & Taxation Panel for the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Coimbatore Zone.
Involvement with Professional and Academic Institutions
Balasubramaniam has a long history with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), Coimbatore Chapter. He served as Chairman in 2010 when the chapter was recognized as the Best Chapter (B Grade). He was also the Treasurer in 2007, Secretary in 2008, and Vice Chairman in 2009. He has been a continuous member of the chapter’s Management Committee since 2007 for 12 years.
He is a member of the Board of Studies for more than 10 colleges in and around Coimbatore and Puducherry. Additionally, he is a member of the Academic Advisory Committee, Visiting Professor at various colleges. He has also served as a faculty member at the Coimbatore chapters of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. He has conducted online video classes and lectures on CAclubindia.com.
Public Speaking and Publications
Balasubramaniam has conducted various workshops for students on topics such as How to appear for professional Exams, Personality Development, and Career Counselling. He has also organized mock interviews, mock board meetings, and mock general meetings. In addition to speaking at over 1,000 symposiums, he has addressed students at various schools, colleges, and business schools. His articles are regularly published in the Chartered Secretary Journal. He also presented a live phone-in program on Career as a Company Secretary on Polimer Channel and spoke on the same topic on All India Radio, Coimbatore.
Awards and Personal Interests
Balasubramaniam has received several accolades for his contributions to both industry and education. In 2019, he was awarded a Gold Medal by the Global Economic Progress and Research Association, New Delhi. He was also awarded by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh for his role as Chairman of the ICSI Coimbatore Chapter when it was recognized as the Best Chapter. Both the ICSI Coimbatore Chapter and the ICAI Coimbatore Branch have honored him for his service to the student community. Earlier, he was awarded by the Association of Matriculation Schools and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan for scoring the highest marks in his higher secondary examination.
His personal interests include Carnatic vocal music, which he studied for nearly a decade and for which he won a prize from the Madras Doordharsan Kendra. He is a Trustee of the Arsha Avinash Foundation, a charitable trust that publishes spiritual books and offers discourses on the Bhagavat Gita, veda, and vedanta. He also provides spiritual discourses on self-realization and has studied astrology and numerology.
